Joel E.
Bass/Rhythm Guitar
Joel began
playing upright bass at the age of twelve in his home town of Grundy Center, Iowa.
By the time he reached high school he had also
taught himself to play guitar and electric bass, and participated in his high
school band and local jazz bands, as well as jazz band camps in Iowa City.
A versatile
musician, Joel has also played in pit orchestras for shows such as Guys and Dolls and Man of La Mancha, and has continued performing a variety of styles on
both guitar and bass throughout college and beyond. While at Iowa State
in Ames he worked as a sales clerk in a music store where he also gave guitar and bass lessons.
He continues to appreciate the beauty and workmanship of a well-built guitar,
and enjoys collecting Fender amplifiers.
Joel holds
a Bachelor of Science degree in animal science from Iowa
State University,
and currently works full-time as a commercial livestock and grain farmer near Reinbeck, Iowa,
where he lives with his wife, Barb. In his free time, he enjoys attending gun
shows with their son, Thomas.
Before
joining The Other Band in the Spring of 2008, Joel worked with numerous other local
country bands and rock bands. As a valuable member of the Other Band and a
great team player, Joel’s mantra is: “I’ve always tried to put a solid
foundation in the rhythm section; if you’re out dancin’ and groovin’, I’m just
doing my job”.
