Tom B.

Lead Guitar/Vocals

Tom B. got his first guitar at the age of 10 and started taking lessons right away.  His Uncle David was a great influence on his guitar playing.    David would play on week-end gigs and never failed to get up early the next morning to play music with Tom.  Tom later became part of David’s band and continued to play with him every chance he got.

Tom’s guitar teacher was Lee Anderson at the Music Corner in Waterloo, Iowa.  Tom continued lessons for a total of four years.

His professional playing began at age 12 around the Tama, Grundy and Blackhawk Counties.  He started playing mostly country music and standards.  In his adult life he has played everything from country and old time rock and roll to being in orchestras and pit bands for community theater groups in addition to lights, sound and tech work.  He enjoys playing a wide variety of music.

Some groups Tom has played in through the years are: The Mind Changers, J.D. Thomas Trio, The New Country Gentlemen, Yosemite Sam, Wicked Andersons, Beaman Band, Rhythm Rangers, Lonesome Highway, Prairie Lightning Band and the OTHER BAND.

Tom played in the band that opened for Tim Rushlow in 2003 at the Iowa State Homecoming Dance.  He has also had the privilege of playing with Jerry Brightman the steel guitar player from the original Buck Owens band, The Buckaroos.

Tom owns his own business where he and his wife of 37+ years work together.   His interests include ham radio, computers, electronics and of course playing with The Other Band.
